Pickwick Beach is a homeowners association that had been in existence since 1966. At that time, Rocky Point was comprised mostly of summer residences and was known more popularly as North Shore Beach, where its population centered. The formation of the Pickwick community made it the first year-round development built in Rocky Point. At the time of it's origin, the association was comprised of only about 100 houses.
After the founding of Pickwick Beach in the late 1960's, two other developments followed, Settlers landing community in the late 1970's and then the Oak Hill community in the late 1980's. The developers married the two communities into the Pickwick Beach Association. Today, the boarders of the Pickwick Beach community extend from 25A north to Lower Rocky Point Road and from the Sound Beach / Rocky Point boarder, east to its neighboring beach association, "The Tides".
Pickwick Beach boarders on The Brookhaven Nature Preserve. The preserve lends the beauty of its lush vegetation, rare migrating bird life, and steep swales. This unique environment can fool one into wondering if there may be a gorilla lurking in the canopy above.
Although Pickwick Beach is open to late night stargazers and fisherman, underage drinking at he beach is strictly prohibited. Because vandalism and noise can sometimes pose a problem, Pickwick forbids the nighttime conglomeration of individuals under the age of 21, or any groups of 10 or more people.
